In Old Testament times, God spoke through prophets like Isaiah.  Prophecies are promises from God.  In Isaiah 11:1 – 4 we read one of God’s promises –

“A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
    from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
    the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
    the Spirit of counsel and of might,
    the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord
 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.”

God made this promise and God kept His promise.  That root of Jesse ARRIVED that first Christmas day . . . our Lord Jesus Christ.  And now, that same Spirit is ours once we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior.   What a gift Jesus offers you and me this Christmas season: wisdom, understanding, and knowledge.  In the world today, what is more valuable than wisdom, understanding, and knowledge about the issues of life? These gifts, when received, provide practical help in everyday issues of life relating to marriage, raising children, our finances, and relationships.  When wisdom and understanding are yours, you discover truth that is practical and life-changing.

Let me share one piece of wisdom for each of these areas:

For your marriage:  Ephesians 5:33 “. . . as for you individually, each one of you should love his wife as himself, and wives should respect their husbands.”

For your children: Ephesians 6:4 “As for parents, don’t provoke your children to anger, but raise them with discipline and instruction about the Lord.”

For your finances: I Timothy 6:18 “Tell them to do good, to be rich in the good things they do, to be generous, and to share with others.  When they do these things, they will save a treasure for themselves that is a good foundation for the future.  That way they can take hold of what is truly life.”

For your relationships: Philippians 2:3 – 4 “Don’t do anything for selfish purposes, but with humility think of others as better than yourselves.  Instead of each person watching out for their own good, watch out for what is better for others.”

He ARRIVED on Christmas Day. . .has He arrived in your heart?  If He has . . .receive His gift of wisdom and understanding and live life to the fullest!
